Abdominal Exercises

Postural Guidelines for Abdominal Exercises
Exercising in proper postural alignment will increase your workout's effectiveness and substantially decrease your likelihood of injury. Therefore, correct posture should be maintained at all times during your abdominal exercises. Follow the simple guidelines below to improve your posture.
Postural Guidelines Abdominal
1. Make sure your head is horizontal to the ground and centered over your shoulders.2. Bring your chest up. 3. As you bring your chest up, your shoulders must relax and not go up. Therefore, relax your shoulders down and back. 4. Tighten your abs by pulling your belly button to your spine.5. Align your knees with your second and third toes. 6. Make sure your knees are not locked. There must always be a slight bend in them.7. Lay with your feet spaced comfortably apart (usually hip width).
The Two Greatest Myths About Abdominal Exercises By Emily Clark
If you have ever read a fitness magazine...
If you have ever watched TV ads about latest machines that will magically reveal your abs...
If you have ever gone to a gym and saw tens of people lying on the floor doing crunches....
then beware because chances are you are a victim of the two biggest abdominal training hoaxes!
Myth No: 1
Just doing some midsection exercises can reduce your "love handles".
Fact
You cannot reduce fat from a certain targeted area of your body just by using exercise alone.
And the abdominal area is no exception.
So if you want to get a flat stomach and to reveal your abs, losing the fat covering them is the way to go.
And the only way to do this is to lose fat proportionately from your entire body by burning more calories than you consume.
How? By doing these two things:
1) Have a healthy and balanced permanent diet: dark green vegetables, fresh fruits, whole wheat and whole grain products, non-fat dairy products, fish, poultry breast, lean red meat, egg white.
Yes, you should cut out all sugar, soda, non-whole grain products and saturated fats: these aliments should only be a reward for achieving a goal, not a habit!
2) Start exercising
Aerobic and weight training will raise your metabolic rate. In result, your body will burn more calories.
* aerobic exercising
3 times per week, practice an exercise that keeps your heart rate elevated for at least 30-45 minutes (ex: walking, running, cycling, swimming, aerobics, etc)
* weight training
Alternate days of aerobics with weight training. You will build muscles that will burn more calories, even when at rest!
Myth No: 2
You have to do tons of crunches.
Fact
Overuse of crunches will only shorten your abs, pull your head forward and gives you a bad posture. Do you really want to looks like Quasimodo, the Hunchback of Notre-Dame?
Any standing exercise that will contract your abs will do but you should specifically target your lower back to strengthen the muscles that support your spine.
The easiest exercise is sucking the gut in, also known as the "stomach vacuum" :
1. Exhale. Suck your gut in.
2. Maintain the contraction for 10 to 20 seconds.
3. Repeat 10 to 15 times, as often as you like throughout the day (for example while in the shower, sitting at your desk, while driving or in the bus).
Time now for YOU to take action!

Male Pattern Baldness

Going bald is a fact of life for millions of men. Adults lose about 10,000 scalp hairs each and every day. Hair normally lives for around five years. With male pattern baldness these hairs do not always get replaced and gradually bald areas appear. This process can however take a long time and the age at which you start to lose hair does not necessarily provide any clues as to how long it will be until you define yourself as bald.
Normal Hair LossThere are a number of reasons why men start to go bald, but if you are a man between the ages of about 20 to 45 and you start to lose scalp hair, then the chances are 95 per cent certain that you are experiencing male pattern baldness. As the term suggests, male pattern baldness follows a typical sequence or pattern. Hair loss can start in different areas but is usually at the temples and/or on the crown of the head. Initial thinning of hair progresses over a number of years and may lead to total baldness but more typically loss of hair over the top surface of the head.
The Cause of Male Pattern BaldnessMost men are genetically predisposed to male pattern baldness. It is the effect of hormones on the hair follicle that produces male pattern baldness. Testosterone, a hormone that is present in high levels in males after puberty, is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. DHT has an adverse affect on the hair follicles. Acting on a hormone receptor on the hair follicle it slows down hair production and produces weak, shorter hair, sometimes it stops hair growth from the follicle completely. This process gradually depletes your stock of hair and is normal hair loss.
Hair loss, Illness or DiseaseGo to your doctor if:You lose hair suddenly, if your hair loss is in clumps or significant enough that you notice large amounts on your pillow, covering the back of your clothes or when you wash your hair. This type of hair loss does not represent typical male baldness, but it does require a diagnosis. Don't worry. Hair loss can occur for a number of reasons and can often be treated successfully.

Testosterone Levels

WHAT MEN SHOULD KNOW ABOUT LOW TESTOSTERONE
WHAT IS TESTOSTERONE?
In the male body, testosterone is the most important sex hormone. Testosterone is responsible for development of male characteristics such as body and facial hair, muscle growth and strength, and a deep voice. Normal levels of testosterone also influence the production of sperm, promote sexual function and promote sex drive.
We now know that some bodies do not make enough testosterone. These men may experience uncomfortable and sometimes distressing symptoms. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) estimates that 4 to 5 million American men may suffer from low testosterone, but only 5 percent are currently treated.

SYMPTOMS OF LOW TESTOSTERONE
As men get older, the ability to produce testosterone declines. This decrease in testosterone production is sometimes referred to as “male menopause.” If testosterone levels fall below the normal range some typical symptoms may include:
ท Low sex drive
ท Erectile dysfunction (ED)
ท Increased irritability or depression
ท Fatigue
ท Reduced muscle mass and strength
ท Inability to concentrate
ท Decreased bone density; osteoporosis

In addition to age-related low testosterone, there are certain medical conditions that can cause low testosterone. These medical conditions can begin in youth or in adulthood, and can affect testosterone levels throughout a man’s life. Some of these conditions are associated with the testicles, and/or hypothalamus (a part of the brain that controls many of the body’s glands). Occasionally, the problem can be genetic.
In younger men, low testosterone production may reduce the development of body and facial hair. Muscle mass and genitals may not develop normally, and younger men’s voices may fail to deepen.

BE SURE TO GET SCREENED
If you experience symptoms associated with low testosterone, you may want to ask your doctor about getting your testosterone levels checked. Your primary care physician can check your testosterone levels with a simple blood test and treat you if you have low testosterone. You might also ask your primary care physician about a referral to an endocrinologist or urologist who specializes in treating conditions such as low testosterone.
Regular checkups and age-appropriate screenings can improve your health and extend your life. Consider adding regular screening for low testosterone to other screenings as part of your checkup.
IF YOU HAVE LOW TESTOSTERONE
If you do have low testosterone, the good news is that the condition is treatable. There are several FDA-approved testosterone replacement therapies, including:
Injections
Patches
Clear gel that you rub on your arm every morning
Talk to your doctor about which option may be best for you.

UK Steroid Law

Anabolic Steroids (“roids”)
Trade names include Anavar, Sustanon 250, Dianabol, Stanozolol, Deca-Durabolin.
The law:
anabolic steroids are prescription only medicines. It is not illegal to possess them for your own use, or to import them for your own use, but it is illegal to supply them without a licence, or to import them for supply to somebody else: Class C penalties apply. The use of anabolic steroids in sports is prohibited. A positive test can end a sporting career
the steroids used to treat eczema and asthma are generally of a different type, although some countries treat asthma using Clenbuterol, which is also used for its anabolic effects.
How they are taken
anabolic steroids can be swallowed, but most are injected.
Effects:
anabolic steroids mimic the effects of the male sex hormone testosterone, and are used medically to treat anaemia and muscle weakness after surgery. They are sometimes abused by body-builders and athletes, as anabolic steroids can help them to build up muscle and recover from strenuous exercise. However, users risk experiencing considerable side-effects (listed below) which can also make anabolic steroid abuse physically obvious.
The risks:
males may develop breasts and erection problems, as well as shrinking testicles and a reduced sperm count. Sterility, acne, and an increased chance of heart attacks, liver failure, and cancer are other possible risks
females face the risk of developing increased facial hair and a deepening voice, shrinking breasts, and acne. Some of these effects can be irreversible. Other risks include disrupted menstrual cycles, and possible miscarriage and stillbirth
use of anabolic steroids by young people may stunt their growth
users may display mood-swings and aggression
injection comes with risks including muscle damage and HIV and hepatitis infection from sharing needles.
